Art
At Brightside Primary School, we allow pupils to explore their own creativity to promote individuality. We provide our pupils with the key skills and knowledge to develop pupil’s vision of themselves and the world they live in. Through promoting and exposing pupils to a range of ideas, mediums and artists, we aim to broaden the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world locally and globally.
Intent
To ensure that pupils develop a secure foundation that they can build upon, our Art curriculum is organised into a progressive model that outlines the skills, knowledge and vocabulary to be taught. Through the intentions outlined below, pupils will be able to meet the main aims of the National Curriculum:
Pupils will be able to develop creative ideas
Pupils will be able to master a range of techniques and skills
Pupils will be able to take inspiration from the Greats
Implementation
Our Art curriculum is progressive and follows a Spine so each year group is exposed to a broad range of artists as they work through the school. This will be taught in the following ways:
Pupils will be given the opportunity to produce creative pieces using both their own ideas and taking inspiration from other artists
Pupils will become proficient in a range of art and design techniques and skills
Exploring Art by evaluating and analysing creative works using the language of art, craft and design
Teachers will model explicitly the subject-specific vocabulary,
Pupils will be given a variety of experiences, both in and out of the classroom, to create memorable learning opportunities and to further support and develop their own creative licence
To embed knowledge further, teachers will make links with other subjects where appropriate.
Impact
The impact of Art teaching at Brightside will ensure pupils have enriching experiences of artists and develop a variety of artistic skills to give them the confidence to express their creativity.
