As adults, they ran a bicycle shop, which helped them understand how to build machines. But they were fascinated by flying, and in 1903, after years of hard work, they built an aeroplane called the Flyer. On 17th December 1903, they made history when Orville flew it for 12 seconds, covering 120 feet. That may not sound like much today, but it was the first time a machine flew with a pilot controlling it!
The Wright brothers' invention changed the world, and today, aeroplanes are used everywhere, thanks to their hard work and imagination.
The Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, are famous for building and flying the first aeroplane. They were born in the United States, Wilbur in 1867 and Orville in 1871. As children, they were curious and loved learning how things worked. They even made their own toys, like kites and a flying helicopter toy that sparked their interest in flight.
